Dear Sir/Madam, I came across your website for the Interegional Scientific Conference of Otolaryngologists Volga and Ural Federal District, taking place 27th-28th March, 2017, in Ekaterinburg. If I may, I would like to propose a didactic lecture, teaching course or workshop on Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potentials (VEMPs), either as a stand-alone or as part of a more general presentation related to Neurotology. Of the many publications that we have prepared related to VEMPs, the one that stands out is related to International Guidelines for the Clinical Application of Cervical VEMPs: Papathanasiou ES, Murofushi T, Akin FW, Colebatch JG. International guidelines for the clinical application of cervical vestibular evoked myogenic potentials: An expert concensus report. Clin Neurophysiol 2014;125:658-666. I believe that it is important for both the Neurology and ENT world to become more familiar with this methodology, as it allows us to evaluate otolith function in a way that no other paramedical examination can, and in the evaluation of central vestibular pathways. The lack of general knowledge with regards to the clinical usefulness of VEMPs was also reflected in a recent survey carried out amongst pediatric otorhinolaryngologists (Dargie et al., 2014), where it was shown that 16% of respondents had not heard of a VEMP testing, and the majority of the remaining were unsure about the clinical usefulness of VEMPs. Both cervical and ocular VEMPs will be explained. A practical/hands-on demonstration can also be arranged. I attach a list of my related publications, together with a history of invited talks that I have given. I also attach a general outline in relation to the possible presentation. Thank you very much. Yours faithfully,
